Alright, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The median home value here is around $874,300, which is pretty steep. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in finance. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for school and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The safety is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Minneapolis it's better than expected.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 26, moved here 14 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The housing market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The walkability is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
