I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,535/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $74,399, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $409,500, which is pretty steep. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Moved here from Atlanta about 2 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to school system but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Eastside area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- The weather scene is solid
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Eastside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The public transit scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 14 years. Moved from Phoenix for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The dating scene is tough compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 15 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
