Hey folks, Average temperature is around 69--F, so the weather is moderate. Am I overthinking this? Appreciate any input.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for work and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The school system is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great seafood places. it's exactly what I was looking for.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in retail. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Baltimore it's solid.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much stable but now it's challenging.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great sushi places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
