OK so Household incomes average around $139,567 in Brentwood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Does this match your experience? The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Bought a house here in 2022 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from New York about 14 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's improving.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.
