Been meaning to ask this. Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $2,497 for rent here. Rent is about $2,497/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Downtown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Houston it's pretty good.

I've lived in Springfield for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The cultural scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for weather and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community vibe is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
