Couple moving to Bridgeport from out of state

First post here. It's a a mid-size city city with about 148K people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Is this normal for Bridgeport?

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 10 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The weather is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
