Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $177,900, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 50, moved here 2 years ago from Portland. I've lived in West and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The nightlife situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$120K here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The pet-friendliness situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
