Brighton quality of life -am I missing something?

Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 5.5%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 24, moved here 3 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Eastside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The community vibe situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in West for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is decent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in South for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
