The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 2 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
