I'm a teacher here and With a population of 116K, Broken Arrow is a mid-size city. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Any advice would be great. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

Came here for retirement and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from New York about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much reasonable but now it's surprisingly good.
