Is it worth buying in Brookhaven?

First post here. Poverty rate is 9.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $660,300, which is pretty steep. With a population of 57,224, Brookhaven is a smaller city. Median household income is $117,448, which feels pretty solid for the area. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I'm a project manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 31, moved here 6 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in North and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The walkability situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
