Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and It's a a smaller city city with about 57,224 people. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 1 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

I've lived in South for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'm a marketing manager and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.
