Hey folks, I work in engineering and Median household income is $117,448, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $117,448 in Brookhaven. The median home value here is around $660,300, which is pretty steep. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest? TIA! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Winters are long and cold
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Raleigh it's solid.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 13 years. Moved from Dallas for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Homeless population growing downtown. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Eastside side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
