OK so Median household income is $36,269, which feels on the lower side for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (West) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
