Considering Brooklyn Park vs Houston -help me decide
So, I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $313,500, which seems about average. It's a a smaller city city with about 84,349 people. Rent is about $1,331/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $85,964 in Brooklyn Park. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience?

I've lived in Fairview for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- The walkability scene is average
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Salt Lake City it's surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 14 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..
