Is Brooklyn Park a good place to retire?

My wife and I are planning to retire in the next few years. We're considering Brooklyn Park because of lower cost of living. Weather is moderate — about 48F average.

Cost of living looks pretty reasonable. How's the healthcare situation? Any retiree communities?

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Maple Heights and Southside are perfectly safe.

Been here 20 years. The city has changed a lot but overall for the better.

Don't sleep on Downtown. It's up and coming and still affordable.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Lakewood. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Coming from Seattle, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are cheaper.

I've lived in Old Town for 3 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.

If you can afford it, Cedar Hills is the best place to live. Period.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 7/10.

As someone who moved here from Atlanta, I can confirm most of this. The friendliness of people surprised me the most.
