Random thought, Poverty rate is 13.1%, which is around average. Household incomes average around $62,987 in Brookshire. Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. The unemployment rate is 6.0%, which is about average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cultural scene is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a teacher, 47, moved here 14 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Westside and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
