Hey everyone, It's a a small town city with about 15,262 people. Poverty rate is 13.9%, which is around average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in North for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The housing market scene is improving
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Uptown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.
