First time home buyer in Broomall

Anyone else feel this way? Military spouse here. You can expect to pay around $1,784 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 49, moved here 1 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Springfield and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The job market situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 32, moved here 13 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The safety situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..
