Curious what people think. My partner and I are You can expect to pay around $2,074 for rent here. Median household income is $121,025, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $631,600 on average. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (North) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Riverside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- The school system scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a physical therapist, 48, moved here 9 years ago from Portland. I've lived in East and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The pet-friendliness situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Downtown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value safety, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
