OK so We have two kids and Household incomes average around $105,435 in Brownsburg. Rent is about $1,405/month for a decent place. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any help is appreciated. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The weather scene is solid
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
