Is Brownsville worth it salary-wise?

So, I'm a remote worker and Homes are going for about $285,100 on average. Household incomes average around $38,460 in Brownsville. Crime rate is something to consider -Brownsville sits at 263.3 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Highland) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in North for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The weather scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 10 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is average - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Chain restaurants dominate. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
