Unpopular opinion about Brownsville

Hey everyone, The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $119,700 on average. Poverty rate is 25.0%, which is higher than I expected. The median home value here is around $119,700, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 2 years. Moved from Atlanta for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited high-paying job options. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
