Couple moving to Brownsville from out of state

Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider — Brownsville sits at 420.8 per 100K. Average temperature is around 76°F, so it's warm year-round. Median household income is $48,675, which feels on the lower side for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thoughts? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Sunset for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is challenging

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 3 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.
