How is Brownsville for outdoor activities?

Random thought, I'm single, late 40s, and Crime rate is something to consider — Brownsville sits at 420.8 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $906 for rent here. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. What are your go-to spots? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor recreation is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
