Cost of living reality check -Bryan

Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. It's a a smaller city city with about 86,169 people. With a population of 86,169, Bryan is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from San Diego about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
