Been meaning to ask this. I'm originally from Kansas City and Median household income is $169,591, which feels pretty solid for the area. Household incomes average around $169,591 in Buckhall. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Anyone in a similar situation?

I've lived in Oak Park for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The nightlife scene is decent
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from New York about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.
