Hey everyone, The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $771,900, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,112/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Thoughts? I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 3 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been in Meadowbrook for 12 years. Moved from Dallas for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Far from beaches/mountains. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
