Rent in Buena Park getting crazy

Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 50s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Buena Park sits at 297.7 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into running, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The weather is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is dating scene. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
