Pros and cons of Buffalo after 13 years

Hey folks, Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 1.3%, which is pretty low. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What are your go-to spots? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 29, moved here 3 years ago from LA. I've lived in Riverside and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The school system situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 2 years. Moved from Minneapolis for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Bugs and humidity in summer. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in South for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The safety scene is decent

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Highland area are challenging. Kids love it here.
