Cost of living reality check — Buffalo

Anyone else feel this way? With a population of 276K, Buffalo is a mid-size city. Homes are going for about $152,300 on average. Crime rate is something to consider — Buffalo sits at 990.7 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Should I be concerned? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a electrician and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
