What I wish I knew before living in Buffalo

My partner and I are With a population of 276K, Buffalo is a mid-size city. Median household income is $48,050, which feels on the lower side for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Riverside for 8 years. Moved from Nashville for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is average - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited entertainment options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
