Would love some local perspective. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Seattle about 2 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 7 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
