I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $1,241 for rent here. Poverty rate is 8.2%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Would love some local perspective. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Baltimore about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..
