Hello, I'm originally from San Diego and The median home value here is around $258,900, which seems about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. it's been a really good experience overall.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Austin about 8 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Midtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
