Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 25, moved here 4 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Nashville about 15 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely solid and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Old Town) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
