Freelancing from Burien -experience?

Hello, We have two kids and Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,742 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 3.8%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience? Thanks! Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The healthcare is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 3 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 9 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

I've lived in Fairview for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options
- The healthcare scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Atlanta about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 32, moved here 11 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 7 years. Moved from Miami for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited shopping options. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 3 years. Moved from Denver for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Road conditions need improvement. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
