Is it worth buying in Burien?

OK so The median home value here is around $609,300, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,742/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Sunset for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The school system scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much manageable but now it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Atlanta about 5 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely excellent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 11 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Raleigh it's solid.

I've lived in Riverside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Close to major attractions
- The healthcare scene is improving

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is public transit. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.
