I work in education here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 7 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. the quality of life is solid. Internet is underrated in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
