What to expect moving to Burlington?

Hey everyone, My partner and I are Median household income is $142,207, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 26,223 people. You can expect to pay around $2,597 for rent here. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Let me know your thoughts. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much wild but now it's tough.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely average and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is improving in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Riverside area are excellent. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Mexican places. I love the pace of life here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 24, moved here 2 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Pine Hills and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Houston about 7 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..
