Is Burlington getting better or worse?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a college student here and You can expect to pay around $1,598 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 8.3%, which is concerning. Median household income is $78,009, which feels about average for the area. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 9,904, Burlington is a small town. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Not enough green space
Any advice would be great. Thanks! The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The weather is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 32, moved here 3 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Pine Hills and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Urban sprawl is real
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
