Moving to Butler -what should I know?

Alright, Crime rate is something to consider -Butler sits at 13.1 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is average.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 32, moved here 3 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Springfield and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in North for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.
