Is it worth buying in Butler?

Born and raised here. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 16.1%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Butler sits at 379.8 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited nightlife
- Lack of diversity
- Far from major airports
- Chain restaurants dominate
What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The cultural scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
