The good and bad of living in Butte-Silver Bow

Hey, I relocated for work and Median household income is $57,633, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 9.0%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $225,100 on average. Average temperature is around 40--F, so bundle up in winter. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Salt Lake City it's excellent.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much established but now it's average.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from LA about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The cultural scene is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 40, moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Sunset and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The dating scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is decent in most areas.
