Biggest downsides of living in Byram?

First post here. I relocated for work and Rent is about $1,318/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 66--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $74,103 in Byram. You can expect to pay around $1,318 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I work in hospitality here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is tough. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 51, moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Pine Hills and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Can feel isolated
3. The food scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for young professionals. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Moved here from Houston about 8 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to traffic but It's not for everyone but it works for us..
