Things that make Byron unique

Hello, I relocated for work and It's a a small town city with about 1,876 people. Poverty rate is 9.2%, which is pretty low. With a population of 1,876, Byron is a small town. Rent is about $2,488/month for a decent place. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I've lived in The Heights for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The housing market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
