Unpopular opinion about Cahokia Heights

First post here. You can expect to pay around $959 for rent here. Household incomes average around $37,975 in Cahokia Heights. Poverty rate is 28.2%, which is higher than I expected. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for Cahokia Heights? TIA! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The job market is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Highland area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (East) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 2 years. Moved from Tampa for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Bugs and humidity in summer. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
