Is Cairo a good place to live?

Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 20.9%, which is higher than I expected. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for retirement and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The dating scene is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.
