Is Cairo walkable?

Hey, I'm single, late 30s, and The unemployment rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 10,067 people. Household incomes average around $40,496 in Cairo. Homes are going for about $114,300 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much competitive but now it's improving.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 32, moved here 11 years ago from New York. I've lived in Fairview and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Property taxes are high
3. The traffic situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in South for 1 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Road conditions need improvement. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
