Curious what people think. Crime rate is something to consider -Cairo sits at 274.3 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Am I overthinking this?

Came here for family and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor recreation is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. community vibe used to be much developing but now it's challenging.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from San Diego about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
